23-04-2025 Playing the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, Engineer Fatima Abbas Jawhar Hayat on Operations mining is monitored by the ministry in the Al-Wafra residential area.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, Eng. Fatima Abbas Jawhar Hayat, stated that the Ministry, through its efforts, ensured the efficiency and sustainability of the electrical system; she observed an unusual rise in electrical loads during the past two weeks in a number of areas where there are many residential and commercial loads, industrial, agricultural, and others.

The ministry started, since last Sunday, a large-scale field campaign in the Al-Wafra residential area, which has resulted – even now – in monitoring approximately 100 homes. Their consumption data shows very high and different rates from the usual residential consumption, which indicates the possibility of using electricity for unauthorized activities, with mining of currency being at the forefront.

It has become evident through careful technical analysis that the consumption pattern in these sites lacks the usual contrast between day and night periods, and between the seasons of the year, where fixed and high consumption is recorded throughout the day, which is a clear indication of devices/equipment being run intensively and without stopping.

To illustrate, the data indicated that during March 2025, some homes in the Wafra area recorded a consumption of more than 100,000 kWh, which is 20 times higher than the usual rates in neighboring homes. This cannot be explained by normal residential activities; thus, the ministry will continue its efforts to monitor and analyze consumption data in other parts of the country.

The Ministry also appreciates the cooperation of the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) in monitoring IP addresses that engage in suspicious operations such as cyber-mining, and the role of the Ministry of Interior in this regard.

The ministry calls on citizens and residents to adhere to the proper use of electrical energy and cooperate with the ministry's teams in this regard. The Ministry also emphasizes that it will not hesitate to take legal action against any entity or individual found to be involved in excessive consumption of electricity through unlicensed activities that affect the stability of the country's electrical system.
