16-11-2025 The spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy announces the opening of bids for the Debdebah power generation project and the Al-Shagaya renewable energy project - Phase III - Project II (Zone 2).

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, Engineer Fatima Abbas Jowhar Hayat, announced that bids are now being accepted from companies that are qualified to participate in the Debdebah power generation project and the Al-Shagaya renewable energy project - Phase III - Project II, with a production capacity of 500 MW, in cooperation with the Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority.

Hayat explained that this tender represents the fourth project in which the ministry is participating with the partnership authority, noting that a commitment document was signed last August to implement the North Al-Zour power plant project - Phases II and III between the Ministry, the Authority, and the winning investor, with a production capacity of 2,700 megawatts using combined cycle technology, in addition to producing 120 million imperial gallons of fresh water per day.

She also pointed out that last June saw the launch of the first phase of the Al-Khairan plant project, with a production capacity of 1,800 megawatts and 33 million imperial gallons of fresh water per day, in addition to the launch of the Al-Debdebah project and the Al-Shagaya project - Phase III - for the first phase (Zone 1) last August, with a production capacity of 1,100 megawatts.

The spokesperson confirmed that the total production capacity of the electricity projects currently being proposed in cooperation with the Partnership Authority amounts to 6,100 megawatts, which is equivalent to about 30% of the current electricity production capacity in the State of Kuwait. This reflects the state's commitment to expanding modern and sustainable energy projects and enhancing the security and sustainability of the electrical energy system.

In conclusion, Engineer Fatima Jowhar Hayat emphasized that opening the door to global investors is an important strategic step to attract expertise. The state is truly committed to the transformation goals and the Kuwait 2035 vision.
