07-10-2026 Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Dr. Subaih Abdulaziz Al-Mukhaizeem, opens the high-level dialogue between partners entitled "Towards a Water-Secure Future for All" on the occasion of the United Nations Water Conference 2026

The Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Dr. Subaih Abdulaziz Al-Mukhaizeem, inaugurated today the high-level dialogue entitled "Towards a Water-Secure Future for All," hosted by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences. The dialogue included the participation of several government officials, ambassadors, representatives of United Nations organizations, financial and research institutions, as well as a select group of experts and specialists in the water sector.

The dialogue is part of the preparatory efforts for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi from December 8 to 10, co-hosted by the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Senegal. Its aim is to enhance international cooperation and support practical solutions and investments that contribute to achieving water security and resource sustainability.

During the opening of the dialogue, Minister Al-Mukhaizeem emphasized that strengthening regional water connectivity is a crucial path to supporting water security and enhancing countries' preparedness for emergencies. He pointed to the importance of continuing work on joint and bilateral projects and completing related technical studies to promote integration and sustainability in the water sector.

He explained that the increasing challenges facing the water sector, and the pressures placed on resources and infrastructure by conflicts, wars, and humanitarian crises, necessitate the development of more resilient and flexible water systems to ensure the continuity of essential water supplies for the population. This includes expanding regional and international cooperation and exchanging expertise to find practical and sustainable solutions.

Al-Mukhaizeem stressed the importance of moving from discussing challenges to developing feasible projects and solutions, and strengthening partnerships and investments in the water sector. This will contribute to improving resource management efficiency and achieving higher levels of water security and sustainability. He noted that cooperation between governments, international institutions, and research and funding bodies is essential in addressing future challenges

The dialogue was attended by the representative of the UN Secretary-General and Resident Coordinator in Kuwait, Ms. Ghada Al-Taher, the UAE Ambassador to Kuwait, Dr. Matar Hamed Al-Neyadi, and the Senegalese Ambassador to Kuwait, Hassan Sogo, along with representatives from several diplomatic missions, international organizations, research institutions, and funding bodies

The dialogue was also attended by a number of officials, specialists, and stakeholders from the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, as part of the Ministry's interest in following up on technical and international dialogues related to water security, and learning about the experiences, expertise, and initiatives presented in this field, in order to support the development of the water sector in the State of Kuwait.

The discussions addressed a number of topics related to the future of the water sector, including the security and sustainability of supplies, strengthening the water-energy-food nexus, enhancing the infrastructure's ability to cope with climate risks, developing regional and transboundary cooperation, in addition to mobilizing investments and supporting innovation, technology, applicable solutions, and financing.

The participants also reviewed models and experiences in the field of partnerships and water solutions, and mechanisms for moving ideas and research from their initial stages to practical, implementable projects, in order to support preparations for the 2026 UN Water Conference and contribute to accelerating progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6, which relates to ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation services for all.

The organization of this dialogue in the State of Kuwait reflects the importance of strengthening international cooperation and partnerships on water issues, and supporting efforts aimed at developing sustainable solutions that contribute to addressing the challenges of resource scarcity, improving the efficiency of water management, and ensuring its sustainability for future generations.
