The 32nd Meeting of the Electricity and Water Cooperation Committee was held via videoconference, bringing together Their Excellencies the Undersecretaries and officials representing the electricity and water sectors of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.
The meeting was chaired by the Kingdom of Bahrain, which holds the presidency of the current 2026 session, with the participation of representatives of the GCC General Secretariat.
The State of Kuwait participated through the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, represented by a delegation headed by Undersecretary Dr. Adel Mohammad Al-Zamel.
The meeting discussed the items on its agenda, as well as a number of memoranda and recommendations submitted by technical committees and specialized working groups. It also reviewed progress in areas of joint GCC cooperation in the electricity and water sectors, most notably:
* Joint GCC Cooperation: Following up on joint initiatives and programs in the electricity and water sectors to enhance integration and facilitate the exchange of expertise and best practices among member states.
* International Cooperation: Exploring opportunities to strengthen cooperation with specialized international institutions and organizations and benefit from global expertise in research, development, and capacity building in the electricity and water sectors.
* GCC Interconnection Grid: Discussing topics and recommendations related to the development of the GCC electricity interconnection system, with the aim of enhancing grid reliability, energy supply security, and the efficiency of electricity exchange and trading.
* GCC Conferences and Events: Encouraging the participation of member states in specialized conferences, workshops, and seminars to showcase successful GCC experiences, initiatives, and projects in the electricity and water sectors.
* Water Interconnection Projects: Following up on studies and proposals related to GCC water interconnection projects and reviewing the associated technical and operational aspects in support of water security and regional integration.
* New and Renewable Energy: Reviewing joint initiatives and programs aimed at supporting the expansion of new and renewable energy projects and strengthening cooperation with specialized regional and international organizations, in line with GCC objectives for energy diversification and sustainability.
* Committees and Working Groups: Reviewing progress in implementing previous recommendations and decisions and discussing the next steps required to ensure continued coordination among the relevant GCC entities.
The meeting concluded by emphasizing the importance of continuing to strengthen cooperation, coordination, and integration among GCC member states in the electricity and water sectors. It also highlighted the need to support joint strategic projects and initiatives that enhance supply security and reliability, improve resource efficiency, develop infrastructure, diversify energy sources, and meet future demand in line with the national visions of GCC member states and their sustainable development objectives.
