11-01-2026 Statement by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy announcing that the Ministry will carry out work to supply and extend fiber optic cables between existing main substations.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, Engineer Fatima Abbas Jowhar Hayat, announced that as part of the ministry's strategic plans to develop infrastructure and promote digital transformation, the Ministry has begun implementing two contracts to supply and extend fiber optic cables between existing main switching stations, with the aim of increasing the efficiency of the communications system that supports the ministry's operating systems.

The scope of work includes excavation and laying of underground fiber optic cables to connect the main substations and power stations to the monitoring and control centers, via dedicated underground cable routes, as well as replacing the existing ground wire on the Ministry's overhead lines with a fiber optic ground wire. This will contribute to enhancing the efficiency of remote operation, control, and management of the electrical system.

Based on the Ministry's commitment to transparency and promoting continuous communication with citizens, residents, and all government and private entities, the Ministry confirms that a weekly schedule will be published detailing the locations where the two projects will be implemented, allowing for advance knowledge of the work program and necessary coordination requirements.

In this context, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy would like to express its sincere thanks and appreciation to citizens, residents, and relevant authorities for their cooperation and understanding during the implementation of the works, affirming its commitment to ensure that the infrastructure of the work sites is not affected, to restore it to its normal state after completion of the works if it is affected, and to implement the project in accordance with the highest standards of quality and safety within the approved time frame.
