The State of Kuwait, represented by the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, chaired the 67th meeting of the GCC Interconnection Advisory and Regulatory Committee, held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, in Kuwait. The meeting, the first under Kuwait's chairmanship of the committee, saw the participation of representatives from member states, the GCC Secretariat, and the GCC Interconnection Authority.

The session was chaired by Assistant Undersecretary for Electricity Transmission Networks, Engineer Faisal Al-Sumait, who stressed in his opening remarks the importance of continuing to strengthen joint Gulf cooperation and coordination, which contributes to raising the efficiency of the electrical interconnection system, enhancing its reliability and readiness to keep pace with the increasing growth in energy demand, and securing supplies in the region.

During the meeting, the committee reviewed the performance and activities report of the Interconnection Authority, and the vital role of the system in supporting and stabilizing the national grids of member states. Key operational events and proactive measures taken to ensure service continuity and maintain operational efficiency were also discussed.

In addition, the committee was briefed on the latest developments regarding the expansion projects of the Gulf Cooperation Council's interconnection network, and the latest developments related to bilateral interconnection projects between member states.

At the conclusion of its work, the committee recommended the need to continue developing the system and enhancing its readiness, in order to support the sustainability of electricity supplies and keep pace with plans to expand regional energy trade.

Kuwait’s chairmanship of this meeting reflects the pivotal role played by the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy in advancing the joint Gulf action and achieving the desired integration in the electricity sector in a way that serves the strategic interests of the GCC countries.
