The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy announces that today, Saturday, July 18, 2026, in light of the heinous Iranian attack on the State of Kuwait, another power and water desalination plant was subjected to a hostile attack that resulted in a fire breaking out in one of the plant’s components. This necessitated taking precautionary operational measures, which included disconnecting a number of generating units, in order to preserve the safety of the plant and its workers, and to ensure the stability of the electrical system.
The ministry's emergency teams are currently coordinating with the general fire force and relevant authorities to deal with the fire.
The ministry confirms that all operational and emergency plans were activated immediately after the incident, ensuring the continuity and stability of the electrical and water systems, and minimizing any potential impact on service, with continuous technical and operational monitoring around the clock.
The Ministry also urges citizens and residents to cooperate during this exceptional phase by rationalizing electricity consumption, especially during peak hours from (11:00 AM) until (5:00 PM), which will contribute to reducing the loads on the electrical grid and support the efforts of the technical teams in completing the repair work and restoring operational readiness as quickly as possible.
The ministry will continue to keep the public informed of any developments through its official channels, calling on everyone to obtain information from official sources and not to pay attention to rumors or circulate undocumented information.
