Minister of Investment Dr. Abdulaziz Khizim participated today, Monday, in the second meeting of the Electricity and Water Cooperation Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The meeting, held virtually, reviewed the decisions of the 19th Consultative Meeting of Their Majesties and Highnesses of the GCC countries, held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on April 28, 2026, which included the possibility of establishing a project to link the GCC countries.
During the meeting, the GCC Secretariat reviewed the ongoing steps taken to prepare a feasibility study for establishing interconnection projects between the GCC countries. This initiative aims to directly enhance integration, diversify preparedness levels, and ensure sustainability. It also includes a key component of the GCC community's efforts to establish a unified Gulf study, supporting the Water Company of the GCC countries, and developing alternative water projects. This includes utilizing surplus water from desalination plants in some countries to compensate for shortages in others, thus contributing to the sustainability of Gulf water resources. The priority, the media phase, and the EMI schedule, along with the assignment of the task to the side of mitigating the risks, finally led to a plan for managing the food supply, including ensuring that the project fully achieves its strategic objectives.
Maintaining the performance track, as recorded by the General Secretariat, requires cooperation in implementing specific directives. Certainly, the General Secretariat needs to provide the necessary data, studies, and insights to complete the study, to leverage the experiences of member states in this field. This meeting comes within the framework of the comprehensive cooperation of the Gulf Cooperation Council to enhance comprehensive work at this vital stage, and to establish secure and stimulating frameworks to confront geopolitical, operational, and climate challenges, characterized by the sustainability of essential services for future generations.
