The Higher Energy Committee held its third meeting, chaired by H.E. Dr. Sobeeh Abdulaziz Al-Mukhaizim, Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy and Chairman of the Committee, to review the progress of its technical teams and examine the findings of the consultancy study on the implementation plan for the Energy Sector Transformation 2035.
The Committee reviewed a presentation by the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy on the progress of the team responsible for following up on the technical teams. The presentation covered the work framework, the achievements of the three technical teams, the key challenges they face, and the guidance required from the Committee to support the progress of their work.
The Committee also reviewed a presentation by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) on the findings of the consultancy study concerning the implementation plan for the Energy Sector Transformation 2035. The presentation addressed the targets for 2035 and 2060, the Growth Charter, the portfolio of projects, policies and studies, as well as the governance model and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Minister Dr. Sobeeh Abdulaziz Al-Mukhaizim emphasized that “developing the energy sector is a national responsibility that requires a clear vision and an integrated institutional approach. This approach must balance meeting current needs with preparing for future requirements, while strengthening the State’s ability to keep pace with population, urban and economic growth.”
The Minister added that the success of the energy sector transformation is measured by our ability to translate plans into tangible projects on the ground that enhance the reliability of energy supplies, improve resource-use efficiency, and support the diversification of the energy mix and the expansion of renewable energy, in line with the State of Kuwait’s priorities and development needs.
Al-Mukhaizim stressed the importance of establishing clear implementation priorities, defining the roles and responsibilities of the relevant entities, and linking each phase of work to measurable performance indicators. This would enable progress to be monitored, challenges to be addressed, and timely decision-making to be supported.
Al-Mukhaizim commended the efforts of the technical teams and participating entities, emphasizing that integrating government, scientific and technical expertise contributes to developing practical solutions based on studies and data, while enhancing the efficiency of planning and implementation.
Dr. Sobeeh Abdulaziz Al-Mukhaizim affirmed that the work being accomplished today in the energy sector will have a lasting impact on future generations. This underscores the need to continue working as one team to build a more efficient, flexible and sustainable energy system that supports Kuwait’s development journey.
