The spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Engineer Fatima Abbas Jowhar Hayat, announced that Kuwait will host the 31st meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Electricity and Water Cooperation Committee on Monday, September 29, 2025.
The meeting will be chaired by Dr. Adel Mohammed Al-Zamil, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council, at the St. Regis Hotel in Kuwait, with the participation of high-level delegations from undersecretaries of ministries and heads of electricity, water, and energy authorities and institutions in the GCC countries.
Hayat explained that the meeting comes within the framework of ongoing Gulf efforts to strengthen cooperation and integration in the fields of electricity and water, and to continue working on developing joint projects that contribute to supporting electricity and water security and sustainability in line with the rapid population and economic growth in the region. The meeting is an opportunity to exchange views and experiences and discuss current and future challenges, especially in light of global trends towards energy transition and carbon emission reduction.
Kuwait's hosting of this meeting reflects its commitment to achieving water and electricity security for countries in the region. The timing of the meeting also highlights its alignment with national efforts to develop public-private partnership projects in the fields of electricity, water, and renewable energy, and to strengthen Kuwait's position as a platform for regional dialogue and coordination.
The meeting is scheduled to address a number of key topics, foremost among which are following up on developments in Gulf electricity and water interconnection projects and developing shared infrastructure, discussing plans for expansion in renewable energy fields such as solar, wind, and green hydrogen, as well as reviewing Gulf initiatives to rationalize electricity and water consumption, increase resource efficiency, and enhance cooperation with international organizations and partners to develop modern technologies and exchange experiences to serve the security of electricity and water in the region.
Hayat also emphasized that the meeting represents an important milestone in terms of joint Gulf cooperation, as the heads of delegations seek to submit practical recommendations to the relevant ministers in the Gulf Arab countries for approval, thereby enhancing the integration of Gulf policies and strategies in the field of electricity and water.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a joint statement will be issued containing the most important decisions and recommendations agreed upon, reflecting the keenness of the GCC countries to continue fruitful and constructive cooperation in these vital sectors.
