The Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Dr Sabih Abdulaziz Al-Mukhaizeem, accompanied by the Undersecretary, Dr Adel Mohammed Al-Zamil, and the Assistant Undersecretary for Power Stations and Water Distillation, Engineer Haitham Al-Ali, on an inspection visit to the Sabiya Power and Water Distillation Station to assess the technical conditions at the station following a minor fire that broke out at dawn today in one of the fuel tanks.
During the visit, the Minister inspected the scene of the incident and received a briefing from technical officials and experts on the circumstances of the fire and the measures taken immediately after it broke out. It emerged that fragments of a drone were found at the scene of the fire, and security authorities are currently investigating.
The response of the security, safety and emergency teams to the incident was also reviewed in accordance with approved plans and procedures, with the specialist teams managing to bring the fire under control in record time without any casualties.
The Minister monitored the progress of the technical inspection and assessment being carried out by specialist teams to verify the safety of the units and equipment associated with the reservoir, and to ensure the plant’s readiness and continued operation with high efficiency and reliability within the country’s electricity and water production system. He commended the national team of engineers, technicians and plant staff, praising their swift response and their efficiency in dealing with the incident, which helped to contain the situation and maintain the stability of the electricity and water systems.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Ministry confirmed that the relevant technical teams are continuing their monitoring and inspection work in accordance with the highest technical standards and health and safety procedures, emphasizing that the electricity and water networks are operating normally and stably, whilst remaining fully prepared to deal with any emergency.
